Street and Roads Millage Renewal

St. James township · Charlevoix County County · November 3, 2026

The question on your ballot

This proposal renews a millage for street and road construction and maintenance, previously approved by the electors that expired after the December 2025 levy. The original millage was 2.0 mills, reduced to 1.9268 mills by required rollbacks. This proposal renews the previously authorized millage, but only up to 1.2500 mills, not the original 2.0 mills. “Shall the previous voted increase in the tax limitations imposed under Article IX, Sec 6 of the Michigan Constitution in St. James Township, of 2.0 mills ($2.00 per $1,000 of taxable value), reduced to 1.9268 mills ($1.9268 per $1,000 of taxable value) by the required millage rollbacks, be renewed at up to 1.2500 mills ($1.25 per $1,000 of taxable value) and levied for four years, 2026 through 2029 inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds for road construction and maintenance, which 1.2500 mills will raise an estimated $84,991 in the first year the millage is levied?”

In plain language

A VoterDecoder summary of the official measure text.

St. James Township is asking voters to renew a road construction and maintenance millage that expired after the December 2025 levy. The original 2.0 mills was reduced to 1.9268 mills by required rollbacks. This proposal would renew the millage at up to 1.2500 mills ($1.25 per $1,000 of taxable value), not the original 2.0 mills. It would be levied for four years, 2026 through 2029 inclusive, to provide funds for road construction and maintenance. The question estimates 1.2500 mills would raise $84,991 in the first year the millage is levied. A YES vote renews the millage at that rate; a NO vote means it is not renewed.
