VoterDecoder

Terms of Use

Effective date: to be set at publication · Operator: VoterDecoder LLC

Draft, pending legal review. This skeleton states our intended terms in plain language; qualified counsel will finalize it before it is published.

1. Agreement

By using voterdecoder.org (the “Site”), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. The Site is operated by VoterDecoder LLC (“we,” “us”).

2. What VoterDecoder is — and is not

VoterDecoder is a free, nonpartisan informational service: it shows the districts, offices, races, candidates, and ballot measures associated with a location, with plain-language explainers. It is not an official source of election information, is not affiliated with any government agency or elections office, does not endorse candidates or positions, and never tells you how to vote. Nothing on the Site is legal advice.

3. Accuracy — always verify with your county

We work from official sources and review content before publishing, but district lines, candidate filings, and measure text change, and errors are possible. Information is provided “as is,” without warranty of completeness or accuracy. Before you vote, confirm your ballot with your county elections office or official sample ballot. If you find an error, please tell us at editor@voterdecoder.org.

4. Acceptable use

Don’t misuse the Site: no scraping at disruptive volume, no attempts to break or probe security, no misrepresenting Site content as official government communication, and no use of the Site to harass or target individuals. We may limit or block access that violates these terms.

5. Your saved ballot stays on your device

The “My ballot” guide you build is stored only in your browser and never transmitted to us. You are responsible for that device; clearing browser data deletes your saved guide. Our privacy practices are described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

6. Intellectual property and data sources

Our original content (explainers, summaries, design) belongs to VoterDecoder LLC. You may share and quote it with attribution for personal, educational, journalistic, or civic purposes; commercial republication requires permission. Underlying government data (district boundaries, filings, measure text) is public record. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors and OpenMapTiles, used under their licenses.

7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Site is provided without warranties of any kind, and VoterDecoder LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Site. (Final wording by counsel.)

8. Changes

We may update the Site and these terms; material changes will be noted here with a new effective date. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

9. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. (Venue/dispute-resolution clause by counsel.) Questions: editor@voterdecoder.org.
