The question on your ballot

Shall the City Charter be amended to require that any vacancy in elective office be filled by a special election on the next regular election date provided by state law that is more than 180 days from the date of the occurrence of the vacancy when either an appointment is not made by City Council to fill the unexpired term of office, or when 2 or more years remain in the unexpired term of office?

This Sterling Heights charter amendment would require that any vacancy in elective office be filled by a special election. The special election would be held on the next regular election date provided by state law that is more than 180 days after the vacancy occurs. It applies when City Council does not appoint someone to fill the unexpired term, or when 2 or more years remain in that term. A YES vote approves the amendment; a NO vote means it is not adopted.
