County chair appointed by council; seven-member council; eight-year limit
Volusia County · Volusia County County · November 3, 2026
The question on your ballot
Shall the Volusia County Charter be amended so County Council appoints one of its members as County Chair each year, not to exceed two consecutive, one-year terms as Chair; return the County Council to a seven-member body of five district members and two at-large members; and establish that no County Council Member may appear on the ballot if they would have served eight consecutive years at the end of their current term?
In plain language
A VoterDecoder summary of the official measure text.
Volusia County voters are asked to change the county charter on how the County Council selects its chair and how it is sized. Under the change, the council would appoint one of its members as County Chair each year. A chair could serve no more than two consecutive one-year terms. The council would return to seven members, with five district members and two at-large members. No council member could appear on the ballot if they would have served eight consecutive years at the end of their current term. A YES vote approves these changes. A NO vote keeps the charter as it is.
