Two-Term Lifetime Limit for Mayor and Councilmembers
Miami Lakes town · November 3, 2026
The question on your ballot
Shall the Town Charter be amended to limit the Mayor and members of the Council to no more than two (2) terms in each office during their lifetime (rather than two consecutive terms), with terms as Councilmember and Mayor counted separately; provide that service exceeding two years of an unexpired term counts as a term; and apply these limits retroactively such that prior terms count toward the two-term limit?
In plain language
A VoterDecoder summary of the official measure text.
The Miami Lakes charter would limit the Mayor and Councilmembers to no more than two terms in each office during their lifetime. Terms as Councilmember and Mayor would be counted separately. Service of more than two years of an unexpired term would count as a term, and prior terms would count toward the limit. A YES vote adopts these lifetime limits, while a NO vote keeps the current two-consecutive-term limit.
