Resign-to-Run Vacancies Filled at Next Regularly Scheduled Town Election
Miami Lakes town · November 3, 2026
The question on your ballot
Shall the Town Charter be amended to provide that when a vacancy in the office of Mayor or Councilmember arises from a resignation submitted pursuant to Section 99.012, Florida Statutes, the vacancy shall be filled at the next regularly scheduled election of the Town, or as earlier provided by the Council with the Town Clerk promptly notifying the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections and opening a qualifying period for the vacated seat?
In plain language
A VoterDecoder summary of the official measure text.
The Miami Lakes charter would cover vacancies from resignations under Section 99.012, Florida Statutes. Those resignations are made to run for another office. The seat would be filled at the next regularly scheduled Town election, unless the Council sets an earlier date. The Town Clerk would notify the county Supervisor of Elections and open a qualifying period. A YES vote adopts this process. A NO vote keeps the charter without it.
