January Term Commencement and Annual Vice-Mayor Election
Miami Lakes town · November 3, 2026
The question on your ballot
Shall the Town Charter be amended to provide that: (1) the term of office of all elected officials elected at a general election shall commence at twelve noon on the second Tuesday of January following the general election; and (2) effective with the general election to be held in November 2028, the Council shall elect one of its members as Vice-Mayor at the first January Regular Council meeting and each year thereafter?
In plain language
A VoterDecoder summary of the official measure text.
The Miami Lakes charter would set when elected officials' terms begin. Terms would start at noon on the second Tuesday of January after the general election. Starting in November 2028, the Council would elect a Vice-Mayor from its members. That vote would happen at the first January regular meeting, and every year after. A YES vote adopts these rules. A NO vote keeps the current rules.
