Revising Procedures for Filling Town Council and Mayoral Vacancies
Miami Lakes town · November 3, 2026
The question on your ballot
Shall the Town Charter be amended to revise Council vacancy procedures to provide that the Mayor nominate a replacement within 45 days, with Council confirmation within an additional 30 days, for vacancies with more than six months remaining; and to provide that if the Mayor's office becomes vacant, the Vice-Mayor completes the term?

The Miami Lakes charter would change the procedures for filling Town Council and Mayoral vacancies. For vacancies with more than six months remaining, the Mayor would nominate a replacement within 45 days. The Council would then confirm that replacement within an additional 30 days. If the Mayor's office becomes vacant, the Vice-Mayor would complete the term. A YES vote adopts these procedures, while a NO vote keeps the current procedures.
