Town of Lee: one-year residency rule for town council candidates
Lee town · November 3, 2026
The question on your ballot
Currently, those eligible to hold the office of Town Council are not required to be residents of the Town of Lee while running for office. Shall the Charter be amended to add the requirement that any candidates for Town Council must also be a resident in the Town of Lee for at least one year prior to the last day of the qualifying period to be eligible for said office, and must maintain residency during their tenure?
In plain language
A VoterDecoder summary of the official measure text.
Candidates for Town Council in the Town of Lee do not currently have to live in the town while running for office. This charter amendment would require candidates to have lived in the town for at least one year before the last day of the qualifying period. Council members would also have to keep living in the town while they serve. A YES vote adds these residency rules, while a NO vote keeps the current rules.
