Fort Lauderdale: end Commission review of challenges to candidates
Fort Lauderdale city · November 3, 2026
The question on your ballot
Should the City of Fort Lauderdale Charter be amended to remove the City Commission's authority to receive affidavits alleging that a candidate for the office of mayor or city commissioner has violated the Charter or is unqualified and make a finding as to whether such candidate violated the Charter or is unqualified, thereby leaving such considerations to the courts?
In plain language
A VoterDecoder summary of the official measure text.
Under this Fort Lauderdale charter amendment, the City Commission would no longer receive sworn statements, called affidavits, claiming that a candidate for mayor or city commissioner broke the Charter or is unqualified. The Commission would also stop deciding whether such a candidate broke the Charter or is unqualified. The ballot question says these matters would be left to the courts. A YES vote removes this Commission role, while a NO vote keeps it.
