Broward: allow alternative process for county plat approval

Broward County · Broward County County · November 3, 2026

The question on your ballot

Currently under the Broward County Charter, all plats in Broward County must be approved by the County Commission prior to recording; this proposal amends the Charter to allow the County Commission to provide, by ordinance, as permitted under state law, an alternative process for approving plats, such as administrative approval, which might enable more expeditious plat approval including by allowing approval when the County Commission is in recess.

In plain language

A VoterDecoder summary of the official measure text.

Under the Broward County Charter, the County Commission must approve every plat in the county before it is recorded. A plat is a map that divides land into lots. This amendment would let the Commission set up another way to approve plats by ordinance, as state law allows. One example is approval by county staff. The ballot summary says this might speed up approval, even when the Commission is in recess. A YES vote allows another approval process, while a NO vote keeps Commission approval of all plats.
