Edgewater Ballot Issue 2K would raise the city sales tax by 0.5% starting January 1, 2027, raising $1,200,000 in 2027 and more in later years. The money could be used only to improve accessibility and mobility, including sidewalks, bike lanes, streets, alleys, and ADA improvements to curbs and crosswalks. It could also reduce what property owners must pay to build and repair sidewalks. A YES vote approves the tax. A NO vote keeps the current rate.

Official ballot arguments

The two official arguments differ a lot in length: the argument in favor is 56 words and the argument against is 90 words. Both are printed in full, as filed.
Argument in favor
• As a citizen of Edgewater Colorado, I favor the upcoming .5% increase in sales tax being proposed. I believe it will improve sidewalks and general mobility of our community.
• I am in favor of the .5% increase in sales tax to improve our sidewalks and other areas for mobility improvements to better our community.
Argument against
• Voters should say no to this sales tax hike. The cost of living is already out of control. A sales tax hike is regressive and inflicts harm and higher burdens on lower or limited incomes, making life even harder to afford. Edgewater charges sales tax on food, unlike some other cities. If this Edgewater sales tax increase passes, your cost of food, necessities, repairs, and household goods increases. Can you afford higher tax rates? Can your struggling neighbors afford more taxes? Vote no on the Edgewater sales tax increase.
