Measure UCity of PortervilleCharter

Porterville charter amendment: public works and contracting

City of Porterville · Tulare County · November 3, 2026

The question on your ballot

Shall the City Charter be amended to authorize the City Council to determine whether public works, maintenance, repair, improvement, and construction activities are performed by City forces, through contracts, or through agreements with other public agencies, and to authorize the City to establish purchasing and contracting procedures?

In plain language

Measure U would change the Porterville City Charter. The charter is the city's basic set of rules. The change would let the City Council decide who does public works jobs, such as building, fixing, and maintaining things. The work could be done by city workers, by outside contractors, or through deals with other public agencies. The change would also let the city set its own rules for buying and contracting. A YES vote makes these changes to the charter. A NO vote means the charter is not changed.
