Measure I: City Charter Amendment - Appointed Incumbent to Serve Until Successor is Elected
City of Sunnyvale · Santa Clara County · November 3, 2026
The question on your ballot
Shall Section 606 of the City Charter be amended to require that a person appointed to fill a vacancy on the City Council serve until a successor is elected at the next General Municipal Election (November of even-numbered years), rather than until an earlier election date that could be consolidated with a statewide election?
In plain language
Measure I is a Sunnyvale city measure. It is about filling a vacant City Council seat. A YES vote changes Section 606 of the City Charter. A person appointed to fill a vacancy must serve until voters elect a replacement. That election would happen at the next General Municipal Election. This election falls in November of an even-numbered year. Right now, an earlier election could be combined with a statewide election instead. A NO vote keeps that current rule.
