The question on your ballot

"HAWTHORNE SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOL REPAIR/IMPROVEMENT MEASURE. To repair aging classrooms, ensure student health, safety and achievement and update technology, upgrade aging plumbing, electrical, lighting, heating/ventilation, safety/security systems, shall this Hawthorne School District measure be adopted to repair, construct, acquire classrooms, facilities, sites/equipment, and issue $110,000,000 in bonds, at legal rates, levy on average $30 per $100,000 assessed value (averaging $5,240,000 annually) while bonds are outstanding, require independent audits/oversight, all money for local schools?"

In plain language

Measure HH lets Hawthorne School District sell $110,000,000 in bonds to pay for school repairs and upgrades. The money would fix aging classrooms and update technology. It would upgrade old plumbing, electrical, lighting, and heating and cooling systems. It would also upgrade safety and security systems. A YES vote approves the bonds. It requires independent audits and oversight, with all money going to local schools. A NO vote means the district does not get this money.

Fiscal impact

This allows $110,000,000 in bonds at legal rates. It would add a tax of about $30 per $100,000 of assessed value, on average. That averages $5,240,000 each year. It lasts while the bonds are outstanding.
