Candidate for Mayor, Petaluma · Petaluma City Mayor

Kevin McDonnell is the incumbent Mayor of Petaluma, first elected in 2022. As mayor, he points to accomplishments including safer streets, increased street paving, reduced homelessness, improved youth sports facilities, and a sustainable city budget.

Positions in brief

McDonnell's platform centers on affordable housing, climate action toward carbon neutrality by 2030, street infrastructure funded by Measure U, and a comprehensive update to the city's General Plan.

On his campaign website, McDonnell says the city needs "housing solutions that are affordable for people who live and work here," warning that without them Petaluma risks becoming "more and more like Marin, which is becoming wealthier and less demographically diverse," and that he will "look at all the city's opportunities and challenges through a housing filter." He supports Petaluma's goal of carbon neutrality by 2030, calling it "crucially important to our collective future." He points to Measure U, passed in 2021, as giving the city resources to stop street deterioration, and says the next General Plan update "will provide the template for how we will use our land during the most crucial decades of Petaluma's history."
