Amarjit Singh

Candidate for City Council (At-Large), Anderson

Amarjit Singh was born and raised in India and has lived in Anderson for about 16 years. He built a career as a teacher that took him to Thailand and England before he immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. He currently serves as director of the Sikh Centre and is active in community outreach.

Positions in brief

In past candidate coverage, Singh has focused on addressing homelessness and youth substance abuse, supporting local police and fire departments, and starting community education programs.

In a past candidate profile, Singh identified homelessness and youth substance abuse as top local challenges, favoring efforts to connect unhoused residents with services rather than displacing them, and supporting a nonprofit to reach teens and adults where they are. He said he fully supports Anderson's police and fire departments and favors hiring more officers. He has also described wanting to set up a free homework lab for students and an adult computer-literacy program. These statements come from an earlier council campaign; no current 2026 campaign website could be found to confirm whether these remain his priorities.
