Ping Li
Candidate for City Council (At-Large), Saratoga · Chairperson, Planning Commission
Ping Li has lived in Saratoga for more than 22 years, where both of her sons attended local public schools. She immigrated from China, earned a Ph.D. in nuclear physics from Indiana University, and was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University before spending more than 20 years in online payment fraud and risk management, retiring as a vice president at a fraud-detection company. She currently chairs the Saratoga Planning Commission after more than four years on it, and has served eight years on the Parks & Recreation Commission and more than four years on the Trail Committee. She is also a director on the Saratoga Historical Foundation board, started the "Let's Work, Saratoga!" park-maintenance and invasive-species program, and has been a docent naturalist with the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District since 2018.
Ping Li's campaign centers on four areas. On public safety, she says she will maintain a high level of service while managing costs, and specifically calls for protecting seniors from financial scams and fraud. On housing, she wants to preserve neighborhood character through design standards while still finding what she calls practical and creative ways to meet the region's affordable-housing need. On wildfire and fire safety, she wants closer coordination with regional fire agencies, defensible-space and vegetation management around homes, and wider promotion of Firewise neighborhoods and wildfire alerts. On traffic, she wants traffic-calming and speed-reduction measures, working with schools and neighboring communities.
