Vicki Veenker
Candidate for City Council (At-Large), Palo Alto · (No Ballot Designation)
Vicki Veenker is a patent attorney and mediator based in Palo Alto. She founded Sibling Cities USA, an organization that connects cities for civic and cultural exchange. She was first elected to the Palo Alto City Council in 2022, and in January 2026 her council colleagues selected her to serve as the city's mayor for the year.
Positions in brief
As mayor, Veenker has focused on housing production, climate initiatives, and the future of the Cubberley Community Center site, and has generally favored letting new state housing laws take effect locally.
Veenker has said she wants to focus on climate change, housing, and the Cubberley site during her term as mayor. She and a council colleague supported allowing Senate Bill 79 -- a state law that raises height and density limits for housing near transit -- to take effect on California Avenue rather than adopting a local ordinance to blunt its impact. She has also worked on difficult council issues including oversized-vehicle regulations and Caltrain-crossing safety.
