Dave King
Candidate for Mayor, Buellton · Retired CHP Officer
Dave King is a retired California Highway Patrol officer. He served twelve years on the Buellton City Council. For two of those years he led the city. He says he brought motorcycle patrols and safety changes to Highway 246. He also says he helped get state money for a new river trail. He pushed back on a planned fast food drive-through over traffic worries. He also backed moving the library to make room for a senior center.
Positions in brief
He wants the city to spend money on water and roads first. He has criticized recent spending on newer projects like a children's museum.
King has criticized a 2025 city pledge of one million dollars to the Santa Ynez Valley Children's Museum. He says it helps too few people. He says water, roads, and other basic infrastructure should come first. He has also asked why a planned valley trail project has not moved faster. In earlier years on the council, he pushed for narrower traffic lanes and a motorcycle patrol on Highway 246 to slow speeding drivers. He also opposed a planned drive-through restaurant over traffic worries.
