Mary Hufty

Candidate for City Council (At-Large), Portola Valley · Portola Valley Vice Mayor

Mary Hufty is a retired family practice doctor and mother of two adult sons who has lived in Portola Valley for 30 years. An environmentalist, she has volunteered as a docent at the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve for more than three decades and has served on the town's Westridge Architectural Supervisory, Conservation, and Trails committees. In 2020 she founded Portola Valley Neighbors United, a volunteer-run group focused on fire and seismic safety, affordable housing, and natural habitat. She currently serves as Vice Mayor of Portola Valley.

Positions in brief

Mary Hufty's platform centers on wildfire and seismic safety, equitable affordable housing suited to a rural setting, protection of open space and wildlife habitat, and transparent town government.

Hufty prioritizes safety over development, citing both wildfire and seismic risk given Portola Valley's geology, and supports equitable affordable housing designed for a non-urban setting. She has called for transparent public participation and integrity across the Town Council and its appointed committees and departments, and supports protecting and preserving healthy, safe open space and wildlife habitat.
