Eugene Valdez
Candidate for City Council Member, Colton, District 3
Eugene Valdez proposed Colton's "South Colton" mural project, a design for a six-foot block wall at 165 E. O Street featuring the Colton High School logo, boxing gloves, and the Veterans Park Eagle, intended to honor the neighborhood's legacy businesses and local icons and to deter the repeated vandalism that had targeted the wall. The Colton City Council unanimously approved the project.
Positions in brief
Valdez's civic record centers on the community-heritage mural project he championed; no additional campaign platform was located in available sources.
Valdez said the mural's purpose was "to encourage and establish community involvement while honoring legacy business from the community," and that it would help create an inventory of historically significant local brands and logos. He added, "Art is subjective, and this process could go on indefinitely, but I'm committed to ensuring this mural reflects the heart of South Colton."
