He currently chairs the city's Arts and Culture Commission, has coached Little League, and served as PTA president from 2019 to 2021.
Positions in brief
Vander Veen's platform is built on trust, transparency, and follow-through, with a focus on diverse housing options, infrastructure repair, and pedestrian and bicycle safety near schools.
Vander Veen's three campaign pillars are trust, transparency, and follow-through. He wants major city decisions explained in plain language, including cost, who pays, and the tradeoffs involved. He supports diverse housing options, says the city should prioritize repairing existing infrastructure over new projects, and calls for safer school crossings and improved pedestrian and bicycle safety, including a review of pedestrian safety near Sutter Middle School and exploring a dog park.
