Alex Miller

Candidate for Mayor, Seaside · Father/Councilman/Businessman

Alex Miller earned a BA in Human Communications from CSU Monterey Bay and a law degree, and has studied internationally in Costa Rica, Singapore, Mexico, Austria, and Ireland. He works as a property manager, beginning his career at a corporate-owned housing development before becoming an independent businessman, developing expertise in contract negotiation, public relations, and business strategy. He has also worked as a substitute teacher and independent-studies instructor in Monterey and Santa Cruz county schools, drawing on that experience to learn about the lives of agricultural workers. He volunteered for 25 years as a soccer referee for school districts and youth leagues and later coached youth soccer for Seaside PAL. After five years on the city's Neighborhood Improvement Commission, he was appointed and later elected to the Seaside City Council in 2022, where he advocated for a fireworks ballot measure, new animal-control ordinances, park improvements, and a policy requiring city staff to respond to residents within 48 hours.

Positions in brief

Miller's platform centers on making city government more accessible and responsive, including an open-door mayor's office and regular town halls; promoting Seaside as a destination for tourism and downtown development; and supporting local organizations that address housing affordability, homelessness prevention, and community safety.

Miller's campaign site says he will move the mayor's office to the front of the building and implement an open-door policy, hold town halls for residents, recognize volunteers and city employees through public ceremonies, and expand the commission and committee recommendation process. On the economy, he wants to establish a Downtown Association and a strategy to attract people-friendly businesses, develop attractions such as a Seaside/Fort Ord Museum, a Hispanic Plaza, and a theater, create a Seaside Amphitheater and Cultural Center, and sponsor the Monterey Bay Football Club as an official city partner. He also says he will support local organizations working on housing affordability, homelessness prevention, early-childhood and youth programs, community safety, senior welfare, and environmental improvements.
