Hezekiah Gonzalez
Candidate for Mayor, Salinas · Student/Caregiver
Hezekiah Gonzalez was born at Natividad Hospital in Salinas and attended Salinas High School. He is studying civil engineering at Hartnell College while working as a caregiver. He has said he would pause his education to focus on listening to residents and pursuing infrastructure improvements he believes the city needs.
Positions in brief
Gonzalez wants to close what he calls a gap in how residents learn about city government, apply his civil-engineering studies to infrastructure needs, and improve transportation options for residents who can't afford a car.
Gonzalez says many Salinas residents lack direct information about how city government works and instead rely on secondhand accounts from teachers, coworkers and family. He wants to use his civil-engineering studies to address the city's infrastructure needs and has emphasized improving transportation access for residents who cannot afford a car. He has also said that involving younger residents in local government matters, saying that when young people don't see themselves represented, the city should ask what it has done for them. He has said he would let his actions "carry the weight my political experience cannot."
