Candidate for City Council Member, Greenfield, District 1 · Incumbent
Belen Leon Garcia is a lifelong Greenfield resident whose family built their home in the city in 1968. Her parents were farm labor workers/contractors, and she has five siblings. She spent 34 years as a teacher and school principal throughout California before retiring, and holds degrees, credentials and certifications from various universities. She was elected to the Greenfield City Council, District 1, in November 2024 to fill a vacancy.
Positions in brief
Garcia's priorities center on children and families, city infrastructure and services, and revitalizing downtown Greenfield along El Camino Real.
Garcia says children are the city's priority and that Greenfield 'must take care of our resources so that they can have what they need in the future.' She lists water and waste management, fire and police services, public works, sidewalks, traffic safety and lighting among her infrastructure priorities, along with 'cleanliness and beautification' and transparency in city finances. On downtown development, she has proposed creating 'an identity and environment that draws people into our city' along El Camino Real and developing vacant lots with businesses, trees and lighting, while promoting small businesses.
