Shelley Cabanillas
Candidate for City Council (At-Large), Del Rey Oaks · Community Volunteer
Shelley Cabanillas is a 15-year resident of Del Rey Oaks and a former bilingual school psychologist with a master's degree in counseling and a bachelor's degree in human development. She is a published author of the book 'The Beauty in Being Known,' has volunteered with local community nonprofits, and is married with three daughters.
Cabanillas organizes her platform around three priorities. On fiscal responsibility, she says city government should spend responsibly and prioritize essential services like police, fire, parks, and trails, while being transparent about how tax dollars are used. On growth, she supports careful management of the city's development, including considering development of the former Fort Ord property for needed revenue and housing, and wants the FORTAG regional trail project completed to the standard promised. On community engagement, she says a strong community starts with people who feel heard and values meaningful opportunities for resident input.
