Mark Barrow
Candidate for City Council (At-Large), Mammoth Lakes
Mark Barrow works in information technology for the Mono County Office of Education, a position he has held for three years, and is pursuing a graduate degree in cybersecurity through an online program at Western Governors University. He graduated from Miami University in Ohio in January 2020 and had planned to join the Peace Corps before the COVID-19 pandemic changed those plans; he moved to the Eastern Sierra instead. He has also worked locally as a ski lift operator, trail host, and baker.
Positions in brief
Barrow's platform centers on housing, drawn from his own experience navigating Mammoth Lakes' housing rules.
Barrow says he has personally been affected by Mammoth Lakes' housing policy, describing its impact in stark terms and comparing it to the famous Goya painting of Saturn devouring his son. He has framed this personal experience with local housing rules as central to why he wants to be more involved in local government.
On the issues
Says the town's current housing policy has personally hurt him and needs to change.
“I've been on the receiving end of [the Town's] housing policy.”
