Michael S. Amabile
Candidate for Mayor, Los Banos · Businessman
Michael S. Amabile is a lifelong Los Banos resident who runs Espana's restaurant, originally founded by his father. He previously served as Mayor of Los Banos for twelve years, from 1994 to 2006 -- the second-longest tenure of any mayor in city history -- during which he established a redevelopment agency, developed more than a dozen city parks and Henry Miller Plaza, built multiple walking and jogging paths, and established a full-time fire department. He currently serves as Mayor of Los Banos again, having returned to the office in a later term.
Positions in brief
Amabile's stated priorities include public safety, infrastructure investment, economic development, and government transparency and accountability.
His campaign materials describe a 'zero tolerance on crime' approach to public safety, along with plans to enhance infrastructure, support schools and arts programs, and pursue economic development and job creation, alongside a continued emphasis on transparency and accountability in city government. He has said his campaign is self-financed and does not accept outside contributions.
