Jason GodekeIncumbent
Candidate for City Council (At-Large), Fort Bragg · INCUMBENT
Jason Godeke worked as a middle school art teacher and university professor before serving on the Fort Bragg City Council beginning in November 2022. His council colleagues selected him as mayor on December 9, 2024. He has said his classroom experience helps him navigate disagreements without taking them personally.
Positions in brief
As mayor, Godeke has focused on diversifying Fort Bragg's tourism-dependent economy and easing its housing crunch, including through municipal broadband, accessory dwelling units, and a community land trust.
Godeke has said that tourism and service-sector jobs, which now dominate the local economy, often don't pay enough to keep up with housing costs. To diversify the economy, the city under his leadership is building a municipal fiber-optic broadband network intended to attract remote-capable businesses; construction began in 2025. On housing, the city is encouraging homeowners to build accessory dwelling units, has approved an 86-unit rental development, and is working to establish a community land trust to help local workers build home equity.
