John HawkIncumbent
Candidate for Imperial County Supervisorial District 5 · Incumbent
John Hawk holds a bachelor's degree in agronomy from Cal Poly Pomona. A third-generation farmer, he has run his family's agricultural operation in the Holtville area for more than 40 years. His district covers Holtville, portions of eastern El Centro, Winterhaven, Bard and large portions of far eastern Imperial County.
Positions in brief
Hawk's campaign centers on infrastructure, job creation and public parks, along with continued development of the Lithium Valley industrial corridor and geothermal energy projects near the Salton Sea.
Hawk lists infrastructure, jobs and public parks as his top priorities. On data centers, he has defended his vote approving a project by saying he was following the county's permitted industrial-zone use, and supports siting future data-center development in the Lithium Valley area near the Salton Sea, where facilities could draw on geothermal power; he has proposed conditions such as noise studies, mandatory landscaping and local-hiring requirements for such projects. On jobs, he points to Lithium Valley and Gateway Port projects and job-training partnerships with local colleges. On homelessness, he has highlighted county behavioral-health outreach that surveys the unhoused population and works to place people into shelter beds as they become available. On health care, he has highlighted the newly merged Imperial Valley Healthcare District as a step toward improving local hospital and clinic access. On air quality, he has touted the Air Pollution Control District's monitoring work, including of the Mexicali air basin. On the deaths at the county's immigration detention facility, he has said the matter is under investigation, declined further comment, and said supervisors would visit the facility for inspection.
