Kelly O'Haire
Candidate for City Council (At-Large), South Lake Tahoe · Retired Government Attorney
Kelly O'Haire has lived in South Lake Tahoe for 23 years. She worked full-time as a police officer and detective while earning her college and law degrees at night, then worked as a county prosecutor and as a municipal attorney for several cities. She served three terms, including as vice president, on a Police Advisory and Review Board, where she helped co-author its policy manuals, and spent six years on a board serving sexual-assault survivors. She has received awards for prosecuting adult and child sexual-assault cases and for law-enforcement collaboration.
Positions in brief
O'Haire's platform emphasizes professional city management, protecting police and fire services, and addressing tourism-related quality-of-life issues like parking and pedestrian safety.
O'Haire says fire and police safety services should not be compromised and wants continued post-Caldor Fire improvements to emergency communications and evacuation planning, along with sustained road-maintenance funding. She wants the city to partner with business owners to strengthen the economic base and fill vacant commercial space, and to address over-tourism, parking shortages, bear safety, and pedestrian safety through enforcement, education, and community partnerships.
