Erika Gonzalez
Candidate for City Council (At-Large), South Lake Tahoe · Public Interest Attorney
Erika Gonzalez is a third-generation South Lake Tahoe resident who serves on the city's Planning Commission and on the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's Living Working Group. She previously chaired the city's Police Advisory Commission and works as a training and technical-assistance managing attorney for the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking.
Positions in brief
Gonzalez's platform focuses on workforce-housing solutions that work with the existing short-term rental market, supporting a more year-round local economy, and more professional, transparent council conduct.
On housing, Gonzalez wants to understand rather than eliminate the short-term rental market many locals rely on for income, while closing regulatory gaps, updating ordinances with TRPA, and pursuing grant funding for deed-restricted workforce housing. On the economy, she wants to support non-tourism-dependent businesses and implement the city's existing economic diversification plan to reduce seasonal volatility. On governance, she emphasizes professional council conduct and plain-language, accessible public meetings.
