Iztaccuauhtli Hector Gonzalez

Candidate for City Council (At-Large), Pittsburg · Businessman/Realtor

Iztaccuauhtli Hector Gonzalez has lived in Contra Costa County since he was five years old. His father Salvador started a small business in West Pittsburg after immigrating from Mexico, and his mother Raquel joined him. Gonzalez attended local schools, received the Principal Award from Concord High, founded the first Latinos Unidos Club, and organized multicultural events. He studied abroad in Mexico City and earned a bachelor's degree in history from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he served on the Associated Students Board. He taught history for three years at the middle and high school level in the Pittsburg Unified and West Contra Costa Unified school districts before moving into insurance, loan, and real estate work; he now owns Gonzalez Insurance and Financial Services Agency. He is married with three children, has served as President of the Pittsburg Rotary Club and of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Contra Costa County, and is Treasurer of United Latino Voices of Contra Costa County. He previously sought a Pittsburg City Council at-large seat in 2024.

Positions in brief

Gonzalez, a small-business owner and former teacher, emphasizes public-safety funding, affordable-housing solutions, and government transparency, and has spoken out against a large data-center project proposed near Pittsburg.

Gonzalez opposes the proposed AVAIO Perseus Data Center project, including all future phases, at the former Delta View Golf Course site. On public safety, he backs funding for prosecution of repeat offenders, neighborhood watch programs, and coordinated video surveillance, along with extensive hiring and screening, ongoing training, and body cameras with audio documentation for law enforcement. On housing and homelessness, he proposes working with developers on regulatory changes that support affordability, or pursuing more aggressive government intervention if that fails, and wants a comprehensive database of the unhoused population paired with collaborative response teams spanning government and nonprofits. He also calls for more community outreach and transparency around municipal budgets and investments, particularly for the benefit of vulnerable residents.
