Positions in brief
Mitchell has emphasized fiscal restraint, fixing Ione's aging sewer system, expanding recreation at Howard Park, revitalizing Main Street, and increasing transparency at City Hall.
Mitchell has said the city should stop creating new staff positions until spending is under control and better accounted for. He has pointed to the sewer system's overcapacity and contamination concerns, which he says affect water quality and public health, as a top infrastructure priority. He has proposed expanding Howard Park with an arena, RV park, and additional sports fields for softball, baseball, pickleball, basketball, soccer, and tennis, and has called for revitalizing Main Street to support local businesses. He has also said he wants to see improved local school conditions and expanded affordable housing options, and has emphasized transparency, honesty, and civility in city governance, criticizing what he describes as spending concerns and a lack of accountability at City Hall.
