Tom RamseyIncumbent

Candidate for City Council (At-Large), Piedmont · Architect/City Councilmember

Tom Ramsey is a California-licensed architect and vice president at a national real estate project-management company, with more than 30 years helping Bay Area organizations plan and build. He previously owned his own architectural firm for 18 years. His community service includes seven years on Piedmont's Planning Commission (chairing it in 2017-2018), the Design Guidelines Committee, the Piedmont Schools Seismic Safety Advisory Committee, the Measure A1 Advisory Committee, and more than a decade as a team leader with the Piedmont Community Service Crew's yearly Rebuild Together-Oakland project.

Positions in brief

Focuses on upgrading Piedmont's aging police and fire facilities, expanding housing options through objective design standards, and advancing climate measures like an all-electric community pool.

Ramsey's top priority is infrastructure: he has said Piedmont's police and fire stations 'do not meet minimum building code requirements' and calls for a comprehensive Civic Center Plan update. On housing, he supports creating objective design standards for potential duplexes and exploring public-private partnerships for affordable housing, while maintaining local control over design standards as the state pushes housing mandates. On climate, he backs an all-electric community pool, expanded REACH codes, and incentives for residential electrification, preferring advisory committees over permanent commissions. He has pledged to 'listen first, ask questions, read every letter' on community engagement.
