Tracy Jensen

Candidate for Mayor, Alameda · Councilmember/Nonprofit Director

Tracy Jensen is a fourth-generation Alamedan and current City Councilmember. She previously served on Alameda's Board of Education, where she helped open one of the city's first new schools in 20 years, and on the Alameda Health Care District Board, where as vice chair she was responsible for a $1.2 billion budget, expanded mental health services, and helped establish an acute rehabilitation program. Earlier in her career she worked on the Clinton administration's universal health care initiative.

Positions in brief

Jensen's platform emphasizes expanding housing at all income levels, safer street design, a balanced and transparent city budget, continued climate leadership on sea-level rise, and growing Alameda's biotech and green-technology economy.

On her campaign site, Jensen pledges to work with the community to secure more housing for both homeowners and renters at all income levels, with a focus on expanding affordable housing options. On public safety she calls for street designs that improve safety without increasing traffic. She commits to a well-run, transparent city government that responsibly manages the budget to deliver core services, and to continuing Alameda's climate leadership by addressing sea-level-rise risk. On the economy she wants to keep fostering an emerging biotech and environmental sector supported by the city's green municipal utility, and lists other priorities including a new aquatic center, a community garden, and a stronger city-school district partnership on youth mental health.
