Sandra De Anda
Candidate for City Council Member, Santa Ana, District 4 · Immigrant Rights Director
Sandra De Anda is a third-generation Santa Ana resident from a working-class immigrant family; both of her parents emigrated from Sinaloa, Mexico. The eldest of seven siblings, she grew up in Section 8 housing in the Cornerstone Village/Minnie Street neighborhood, experiencing food insecurity, limited access to healthcare, and the threat of immigration enforcement. She attended Kennedy Elementary and Villa Fundamental School in Santa Ana before earning a scholarship through the A Better Chance Program to attend Chatham Hall, a college-preparatory school in Virginia. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Reed College in Oregon, becoming the first in her family to pursue higher education. De Anda has worked as an award-winning immigrant-rights advocate and writing instructor, helping families navigate difficult circumstances by advocating for stronger public policies and building partnerships among community organizations, attorneys, and local officials.
