Laz Peterson

Candidate for City Council Member, Menifee, District 2

Laz Peterson moved to Menifee with his wife in 2015; they have five children, and he spends much of his time outside work at schools, parks, soccer fields and other community activities. He owns three technology-related businesses covering internet hosting, application development and IT support, and also does data management for industrial companies and works in communications and network security. He has served on Menifee's Parks, Recreation and Trails Commission since 2023, after previously serving on the committee that became the city's Quality of Life (Measure DD) Oversight Committee.

Positions in brief

Peterson wants to bring more recreation and amenities to Menifee so families don't have to travel to nearby cities, supports warehouse development that directly benefits residents, and backs continued use of Flock public-safety cameras.

Peterson says families in Menifee often have to travel to Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore and other nearby cities for recreation because the city doesn't offer everything they need to raise their children. He cites parks, open space and sewer infrastructure as areas where development has outpaced growth. On warehouses, he supports development that directly benefits residents, such as indoor sports facilities, saying the city has catered too much to corporate interests. Drawing on his network-security background, he supports the Flock license-plate reader camera program but says he would represent constituents' wishes if they came out against it.
