Christina Tovar
Candidate for City Council Member, Gilroy, District 5 · Gilroy Business Owner
Christina Tovar is a CPA who has raised four sons in Gilroy and is now watching her grandchildren grow up there. She owns two small businesses in downtown Gilroy and purchased and renovated a building there to keep her business headquarters local. Her father was a Vietnam veteran.
Positions in brief
Tovar is campaigning on fiscal discipline, reducing regulatory barriers for downtown businesses, support for nonprofits, and earlier community input in city decisions.
Tovar says every tax dollar should be treated as if it came out of a resident's own pocket, and wants to study the budget for the smartest path forward rather than simply denying requests. She supports reducing regulatory barriers and modernizing zoning to be more business-friendly downtown, and backs well-staffed police and fire services funded by growing local revenue. She has funded therapy rooms and led toy drives for local nonprofits, and wants residents included as partners early in city planning rather than consulted only after decisions are made.
On the issues
Wants the city budget managed as carefully as a household budget, seeking smart solutions rather than automatic denials.
“With degrees in finance and accounting along with a CPA, I believe in fiscal responsibility. I can study a budget to find the smartest path to yes, not reasons to say no.”
