Tom Emmer has served in the U.S. House since January 2015 and is currently the House Majority Whip. He sits on the House Financial Services Committee. Emmer earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law, then practiced law and opened his own law firm. He served on the city councils of Independence and Delano and in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2004 to 2008.
