Pat Eklund
Candidate for City Council Member, Novato, District 4
Pat Eklund has served Novato since 1995, including multiple terms as mayor. She was drawn into local government after advocating for a fix to a dangerous intersection in her neighborhood, and says government works best when it listens to the people who actually live there. During her tenure she championed creating a K9 unit for the Novato Police Department, led efforts to permanently protect the city's hillsides and ridgelines from overdevelopment, and worked to keep 911 dispatch under local control for faster response times. She helped pass a balanced $62.6 million city budget supported by Measure M, and has worked with organizations including Homeward Bound of Marin and the SAFE program to move formerly unhoused residents into supportive housing.
Positions in brief
Eklund's platform centers on public safety, protecting Novato's open space and hillsides, homelessness solutions through local partnerships, and continued fiscally responsible city budgeting.
Eklund lists road repair, public safety and emergency response, parks maintenance, and responsive, accountable local government among her top priorities. She points to a record of accomplishments including creating the police department's K9 unit, permanently preserving the city's hillsides and ridgelines from overdevelopment, and keeping 911 dispatch under local control rather than outsourcing it. On homelessness, she cites partnerships with Homeward Bound of Marin and the SAFE program that she says helped move roughly two dozen people from tents into permanent, supportive housing. She also highlights helping pass a balanced $62.6 million city budget, supported by Measure M, as part of her record of fiscal stewardship.
