Maggie Marschner

Candidate for County Superintendent of Schools, Ventura County

Maggie Marschner is a Camarillo native who has spent more than two decades in education, working in classrooms, school leadership, and state-level policy. She holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in secondary education from Regis University. She co-chaired the Teachers and Leaders Council of Nevada from 2016 to 2019 and served as principal of La Reina High School and Middle School, a Catholic all-girls school in Thousand Oaks, from 2019 until the school's closure in 2024. She has completed executive-education programs at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, including 'Women in Educational Leadership' (2020) and 'Using Evidence in Practice' (2022), and has lectured at national conferences on instructional practice, student well-being, technology policy, and systems change.

Positions in brief

Marschner's 'People Over Programs' platform emphasizes fiscal accountability and transparency at the county office of education, student-centered and data-driven decision-making, and trusting and empowering teachers rather than adding new packaged programs.

Marschner's campaign lists four core priorities: accountability and transparency in school leadership; student-centered decision-making; data-driven decisions; and investing in people over programs, meaning she wants the county office to trust and empower educators rather than layering on new packaged initiatives. She also says she wants to build systems designed to serve every student from the start. She describes herself as 'a practitioner, not a politician,' pointing to her experience running a school and building teams as the basis for a results-oriented approach.
