Positions in brief

Krahel's stated top three priorities are housing, climate, and transit. On housing, he backs 'smart growth' policies. These call for faster approvals for housing at all income levels. He wants that housing built near jobs and transit. On homelessness, he calls for more shelter investment. This includes both congregate and non-congregate shelter. He backs diversion programs. These aim to reduce jail overcrowding. He wants to connect people to mental health treatment. He also wants substance-use treatment for them. He backs enforcing laws against repeat offenders too. On climate, he wants a large cut to greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. He points to steps like fire prevention and flood control. He also points to beach retention and water conservation. He wants expanded public transit too. On health care, he notes how many county residents rely on Medi-Cal. Many also rely on Covered California. He calls this a reason to protect coverage.
