Positions in brief
Joe Salas emphasizes downtown economic development, collaboration between law enforcement and the community, addressing homelessness, improving infrastructure, and greater accessibility and direct communication with constituents.
Salas wants to develop downtown and attract new retail and commercial projects to revitalize the local economy, foster collaboration between law enforcement and the community to ensure resident safety, and address homelessness, improve infrastructure, and maintain safe, clean parks. He has pointed to the city's 20-year-old General Plan and frequent leadership turnover as obstacles to long-term planning, and emphasizes accessibility, saying he shares his personal contact information and returns nearly all constituent communications. He has endorsed expanding the city's Peace Team homelessness-outreach program, which has contacted more than 1,100 people and made over 600 service referrals, and says tax dollars should go toward what is most effective.
