Virginia Marquez
Candidate for City Council Member, San Bernardino, District 1 · Community Services Liaison
Virginia Marquez is a lifelong San Bernardino resident who spent more than 30 years as a California State Parole Agent with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation before entering elected office. She previously served two terms on the San Bernardino City Council for the First Ward, during which the city went through its 2012 municipal bankruptcy; she is credited with helping guide the city through that period and helping restore its financial stability and public trust. She has also worked alongside the county Board of Supervisors.
Positions in brief
Virginia Marquez's priorities include addressing homelessness, rent control, infrastructure, and prostitution-related safety concerns, along with a stronger downtown economic development strategy.
At a Ward 1 candidate forum, Marquez identified four top resident concerns: homelessness, infrastructure, prostitution, and rent control. On housing, she pointed to projects like the U.S. VETS development and Alder Square as steps forward. On downtown, she called for a stronger economic development strategy focused on job creation, and said serving on the council would be her full-time job.
