Desiree Lynch
Candidate for City Council Member, Stockton, District 5 · Post-Surgery Recovery Nurse
Desiree Lynch is an ICU/PACU nurse and a mother who describes herself as a lifelong Californian. Her 2026 campaign was marked by controversy: after questions were raised about whether she actually lived in the district she sought to represent, she briefly withdrew from the race in mid-August 2026, citing safety concerns for herself and her daughter, then reversed course days later. She was subsequently arrested and charged with felony counts related to alleged perjury and false voter-registration and candidacy filings. She later submitted a signed letter asking to withdraw her candidacy, but a judge ruled in late August 2026 that her name would remain on the November ballot because she had already qualified through the June primary and the legal withdrawal deadline had passed.
Positions in brief
Lynch has emphasized a mix of compassion and accountability on public safety, calling for continued investment in mental health and addiction services alongside stronger measures against dangerous behavior.
After a campaign consultant working for Stockton council candidates was stabbed in July 2026, Lynch and a fellow candidate called for stronger public safety measures, with Lynch saying: 'We must continue investing in mental health, addiction treatment and supportive services that help people get back on their feet. At the same time, compassion must be matched with accountability. We cannot continue allowing dangerous behavior to threaten the safety of our residents, businesses and neighborhoods. We need a balanced approach.' In a joint statement with the other candidate, she said they were committed to 'supporting our law enforcement officers, strengthening violence prevention efforts, investing in mental health and addiction services, addressing homelessness with both compassion and accountability and demanding measurable results from city hall.'
