Positions in brief
Martinez Lott is a community organizer. She also owns a small business. She wants Fresno to build homes within the city instead of spreading out.
Martinez Lott wants the city to add housing inside existing neighborhoods instead of building outward. She wants to grow a city fund that helps build more affordable homes. She backs a new tax to fix roads and add safe routes to school. She is wary of tax breaks for large companies. She wants new industrial sites spread across the city, not just her district.
On the issues
- Housing & Homelessness
Opposes rushing plans to expand the city into Southeast Fresno, saying it would stretch police, fire, trash, and water services too thin.
“Will we continue to build outwards, or will we prioritize the neighborhoods we call Home?”
Source → - Housing & Homelessness
Wants the city to increase its housing stock within existing neighborhoods instead of expanding city boundaries, and to expand the city's Local Housing Trust Fund to help developers build affordable and market-rate homes.
“We've got organizations like Lowell CDC who have purchased small apartment complexes and turned them into rent stabilized units.”
Source → - Infrastructure & Transportation
Supports the Better Roads, Safe Streets transportation measure to replace Measure C, and wants better sidewalks and traffic-calming measures near schools.
“One of the things we've often heard from families over the past 15 years is that even though they live within walking distance of their elementary school, they don't feel safe walking their kid to school.”
Source → - Economy & Jobs
Does not favor offering subsidies to attract large distribution companies to Fresno, and wants stronger local-hire requirements from businesses that do move in.
“Oftentimes, what happens with these big companies is, yeah, they get a lot of subsidies, but then they're not paying their fair share.”
Source → - Environment, Energy & Climate
Wants future industrial development spread more evenly across the city instead of concentrated in southern districts, with mitigation for health impacts.
“If there is going to be more industrial development, businesses also need to be ensuring that they are mitigating the health issues.”
