Positions in brief
O'Brien once led the Clovis Unified School District. She now leads Central Unified on an interim basis. Her top goal is getting every child reading by third grade.
O'Brien says most Fresno County third-graders do not read at grade level. She wants to fix that first. She also wants schools to work more closely with parents. Her third goal is to get more value from school spending. She has also spoken about school sports. She has said she worries about fairness and safety when transgender athletes compete against girls. She called a state rule on medals for such events a fair step for now.
