Dane M. WhiteIncumbent
Candidate for Mayor, Escondido
Dane White is the incumbent Mayor of Escondido, first elected in 2022, and a fifth-generation Escondido resident who attended Escondido High School and Escondido Charter. Rather than attending college, he entered the construction trades, working his way up to Project Manager, and now owns WhiteWerks Flooring LLC, serving San Diego County. He previously worked as a resident manager overseeing a recovery residence for people with addiction and mental health issues, and served on the Escondido Union High School Board from 2016, including as board president during the COVID-19 pandemic. He is active in his church's addiction-recovery and youth programs and has spoken about his own past experience in foster care and homelessness.
White's re-election campaign centers on homelessness, public safety, affordability, small-business support, and roads and infrastructure. He points to a 32% reduction in unsheltered homelessness (from 401 to 271) since its 2024 peak during his time as mayor, which he attributes to focusing on root causes and restoring accountability, and has pledged to restore the city's access to state and federal homelessness funding. On affordability, he frames the goal as helping residents afford housing in a high-quality neighborhood.
